Art Trails knows practicing artists in Woodstock and the inner city including Salt River and the Maitland Institute. Studio visits can be arranged if clients are interested to see where leading artists work. There are also some studio spaces and private collections in the Southern Suburbs and Constantia to visit by appointment only. In the Cape Town townships, we can visit homes turned into art galleries and some printmaking premises for a printmaking workshop. Exact activities and visits depend upon each location and availability on the day.
Conrad Hick’s forge and studio
Conrad Hicks is an artist and blacksmith who forges metal into implements. His pieces are functional, be it a message in a piece of sculpture or a beautiful tool that carries the object into a realm beyond the functional dimension. Art Trails will arrange a viewing of Conrad’s iron making forge and process in The Bijou, an old Art Deco cinema in Observatory, Cape Town with an intimate tour of how he creates his world-renowned furniture and sculptures. Conrad’s work is in major collections, institutions and public spaces.
Side Street Studios in the heart of Woodstock
Visits can be arranged to view the working studios of mid-career artists Matthew Hindley and Tom Cullberg, who are both represented leading galleries and work is in private collections and institutions.
