Discover the beauty of the Cape Winelands with visits to wine estates hosting art collections and sculpture gardens and combine a day or half day tour with some wine tastings at some of these splendid wine estates or visit the newly opened Norval Museum next door to the Steenberg wine estate and combine with a wine tour of Constantia.
The Norval Foundation Museum
The musuem opened in April 2018, the newest museum of 20th and 21st century African art, is nestled in the Steenberg valley with spectacular views of local vines and mountains. The sculpture garden, in a wetland of indigenous flora, presents figurative, narrative and mythological works on long term loan and from the Norval family collection – the Homestead. The breathtaking museum is close to the top Constantia wine estates including Contantia Uitsig, Constantia Klein and Groot Constantia.
The Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden just outside Stellenbosch is a must see for those interested in sculpture, particularly wildlife, in a fantastic natural garden setting. Dylan Lewis is a world renowned sculptor, having sold around the world in leading galleries and at auction houses like Christies. Art Trails will arrange a personal tour of the garden with a full introduction to the artist’s work.
Also in Stellenbosch discover Delaire Graff’s collection of South African painting, including the Chinese Girl by Trechikoff, and sculpture with a tasting or fine dining. In the town of Stellenbosch is the Rupert museum, housed in a Cape Dutch barn built explicitly to showcase the Rupert collection of many South African masters.
In Franschhoek, we will visit another Rupert museum at the La Motte vineyard and tour the many commercial galleries that line the main road of the quaint village, including Everard Read and Ebony Curated. No visit is complete without a visit to Grand Provence to see the art in the converted stables and the magnificent hotels of the Leeu collection.
